Mission and Main Role

The National Risk Assessment Agency’s mission is to provide scientific and technical expertise to Tunisian authorities regarding health risks related to food, products, the environment, and the control chain. Key elements include:

Systematic Assessment of Health Risks in the Food Chain

Its objective is to make the systematic assessment of food-related health risks essential throughout the entire food chain

Coordination of Health and Environmental Control of Products

It coordinates and consolidates health and environmental control activities for products carried out by the various stakeholders.

Dissemination and Follow-up of Reference Scientific Recommendations

Acting as a reference authority, it disseminates the recommendations derived from these assessments and ensures their proper monitoring.

Main Responsibilities and Activities

Here are the concrete activities that the agency carries out:

    • Études et analyses sur les risques liés aux produits (alimentaires, environnementaux, médicaux) ou à des expositions sanitaires.
    • Mise en œuvre d’approches telles que l’« analyse des risques » (évaluation, gestion, communication) dans le domaine de la sécurité sanitaire.
    • Publication d’avis scientifiques à destination des gestionnaires de risques et des autorités réglementaires.
    • Fournir aux ministères et instances compétentes des recommandations pour l’élaboration de textes légaux, réglementaires ou normatifs.
    • Appuyer la structuration des systèmes de contrôle, la définition de référentiels et de protocoles.
    • Coordination entre les différents intervenants (laboratoires, institutions publiques, départements ministériels) dans le domaine du contrôle sanitaire et environnemental.
    • Diffusion des résultats d’évaluation, suivi des recommandations, veille scientifique et technique.
    • Organisation d’ateliers, formations, webinaires avec des experts, pour promouvoir les bonnes pratiques de gestion des risques.
    • Réalisation d’études spéciales (par exemple qualité sanitaire des aliments de volailles) pour appuyer les politiques publiques.

    • Implementation of approaches such as "risk analysis" (assessment, management, communication) in the field of health safety.
    • Publication of scientific opinions intended for risk managers and regulatory authorities. 
    • Providing ministries and competent bodies with recommendations for the development of legal, regulatory, or normative texts.
    • Supporting the structuring of control systems, and the definition of standards and protocols.
    • Coordination among various stakeholders (laboratories, public institutions, and ministerial departments) in the field of health and environmental control.
    • Dissemination of assessment results, monitoring of recommendations, and scientific and technical surveillance.
    • Organization of workshops, training sessions, and webinars with experts to promote best practices in risk management.
    • Conducting special studies (e.g., sanitary quality of poultry products) to support public policies.
